Both OCTA and Metrolink will offer free rides on the bus, train all day Wednesday, Oct. 1; during Rideshare Week, which runs Oct. 6 – 10, commuters can reduce traffic, help improve air quality
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority is encouraging commuters to give up the solo drive and save time and money by sharing the ride, trying an alternate form of transportation, or working from home, during Rideshare Week 2025, Oct. 6 – 10.
Prior to the weeklong effort, OCTA will mark Clean Air Day with free rides all day on Wednesday, Oct. 1. No special tickets are required to ride OC Bus or a Metrolink train that day. For more information, visit octa.net/CleanAirDay.
This year’s campaign theme, “Every Ride Counts, Especially Yours,” highlights how even small choices, whether it’s taking the bus, train, bike, scooter, carpool, vanpool, or teleworking, can make a big impact on reducing traffic and improving air quality.
OCTA joins transportation agencies across the region and the country in promoting Rideshare Week, which emphasizes alternatives to driving alone, helping commuters cut costs, ease congestion, and contribute to cleaner air for all.

People who visit octa.net/rideshareweek can pledge to use a commuting mode other than driving alone at least once during Rideshare Week and will be entered to win a Commuter Essentials Kit, sponsored by Spectrumotion. The prize package, valued at over $400, includes:
- AirPods Pro
- Portable battery charger (power bank)
- YETI Rambler
- Amazon Kindle
- OCTA tote bag
In support of vanpooling, qualifying groups can now receive a subsidy of up to $800 per month.
OCTA hopes that participants in Rideshare Week and Clean Air Day will experience firsthand the benefits of alternative commuting, including cost savings, reduced stress, and cleaner air, and be inspired to continue ridesharing throughout the year.
