Project Details

The I-605/Katella Avenue interchange connects the San Gabriel River Freeway, a major north-south transportation route in Orange and Los Angeles counties, with Katella Avenue, an east-west regional corridor.

The project will improve overall operations for vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians by:

  • Modifying northbound and southbound ramps at Katella Avenue
  • Closing the gaps in existing bike lanes by adding Class II bike lanes along eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue
  • Enhancing sidewalk connectivity between Coyote Creek Channel and Epson Way
  • Constructing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramps and installing new signage and crosswalk pavement markings

Construction Activities

Eastbound and Westbound Katella Avenue

Work continues behind the k-rail along eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue between the I-605 freeway and Epson Way in preparation for construction of a new sidewalk and bike lane. Along westbound Katella, daytime and nighttime work includes excavation, electrical work, grading, placement of curb and gutter, as well as forming and striping activities.

In early June, crews are expected to reopen the new sidewalk along eastbound Katella for pedestrian access.

This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or unforeseen operational issues.

Sidewalk Access

While the sidewalks on both eastbound and westbound of Katella are under construction, pedestrians can use a protected walkway on eastbound Katella, which will serve as a temporary pedestrian detour route.
