In observance of the Christmas and New Years holidays, there will be no construction activities or closures on Thursday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Dec. 26 as well as Thursday, Jan. 1 and Friday, Jan. 2.

Construction Activities

Northbound I-605 On-Ramp Update

Crews completed sawcutting and restriping lanes in preparation for the northbound I-605 on-ramp realignment. In the coming weeks, nighttime closures on the on-ramp are anticipated as crews remove existing guardrails and roadway pavement to make room for construction of a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall along the ramp. Motorists may notice minor traffic shifts once this work is completed. Additional updates will be shared in future communications.

Sidewalk Access

While the sidewalks on both eastbound and westbound of Katella are under construction, pedestrians can use a protected walkway on eastbound Katella, which will serve as a temporary pedestrian detour route.

Closures and Detours

Please plan ahead and expect delays during these times. Nighttime closures typically occur between 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Specific closures for the week of Dec. 22 include:

• Outside lanes on eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue/Willow Street, at least one lane will be open to traffic at all times
• Outside lane on northbound and southbound I-605 at Katella Avenue/Willow Street; at least three lanes will be open to traffic at all times

Rainy Weather Saftey

With wet weather in the forecast, please use extra caution around construction zones. Rain can create slippery surfaces, reduce visibility, and make roadways unpredictable.

Here's how you can keep everyone safe:

• Slow down and allow extra space between vehicles.
• Avoid driving through flooded areas or around closed lanes.
• Watch for construction crews and equipment, which may be adjusting operations due to weather.
• Stay alert for changing traffic patterns or signage near work zones.

Our crews carefully monitor conditions and may temporarily pause work to maintain safety for both workers and the traveling public.

Rendering of Improvements along Katella Avenue

The rendering above highlights planned improvements along Katella Avenue between Coyote Creek Channel and Epson Way. Key features include:

• Reconfiguration of the northbound on- and off-ramps into a T-intersection
• Addition of Class II bike lanes with hatched markings to indicate bike lane transitions
• Installation of a new traffic signal at the northbound I-605/Katella Avenue off-ramp, along with upgraded signals at nearby intersections
• Painted crosswalks and newly constructed sidewalks to enhance pedestrian access and safety
