Construction activities are expected to take place under the SR-261/I-5 bridge. Crews will carry out daytime pile driving activities for abutment work and nighttime cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) activities for bent work for the widening of I-5. *See below for more information on pile driving, CIDH, abutments, and bents.

Anticipated Dates: As early as May 4 and continuing for the next few weeks.
Anticipated Pile Driving Daytime hours: As early as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Construction Activities Under Jamboree Road/I-5

Construction activities are expected to take place under the Jamboree Road/I-5 bridge. Crews will carry out daytime pile driving activities for abutment work and nighttime cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) activities for bent work for the widening of I-5. *See diagrams below for more information on pile driving, CIDH, abutments, and bents.

Anticipated Dates: As early as May 18 and continuing for several weeks.
Anticipated Pile Driving Daytime hours: As early as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Anticipated CIDH Nighttime hours: As early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Additionally, CIDH nighttime work will require long-term lane closures:

  • Crews will close off the lane closest to the median in both directions of Jamboree Road at the I-5 bridge with concrete barriers. At least one lane in each direction will be open to traffic at all times, unless otherwise specified.
  • Lane closures will be in place for initial CIDH construction activities and remain until late 2026 to support additional I-5 widening work ,including:
    • Set-up of falsework (temporary supports that keep a structure stable during construction until it's finished)
    • Placement of rebar, concrete, etc., for the new bridge columns

Finally, CIDH nighttime work and other ongoing nighttime activities may require intermittent full street closures of westbound (WB) and eastbound (EB) Jamboree Road at I-5 throughout the life of the project. Please see below for closures and detours maps.

Bridge Foundation Construction Methods

Pile Driving

What is Pile Driving?

Pile driving is a commonly used method of constructing structure foundations.

To support the structure, a pre-fabricated steel or concrete beam or "pile" is hammered into the soil until it reaches a hard layer of earth beneath the structure foundation.

Activity is best carried out during the daytime due to:

  • Significant noise
  • More vibration
