The Orange County Transportation Authority, in coordination with Metrolink, is taking emergency action to stabilize the rail line in north San Clemente. The work is necessary to address urgent threats from slope and beach erosion and to protect the community, rail passengers and overall rail operations.

OCTA in cooperation with Caltrans is improving 16 miles of the San Diego Freeway (I-405) between State Route 73 (SR-73) and Interstate 605 (I-605). It also will construct the 405 Express Lanes from SR-73 to I-605. The new express lanes – incorporating the existing carpool lanes and connectors that opened in 2014 – will be two lanes in each direction.

Worked with key stakeholders on emergency e ̃orts to help ensure uninterrupted coastal rail service and launched a study to assess vulnerability of the railroad right-of-way in South Orange County and to address impacts from erosion, sea-level rise and other factors.
