The OCTA-led Coastal Rail Resiliency Study aims to evaluate and implement strategies to fortify the railway in the vulnerable 7-mile stretch between Dana Point and the San Diego County Line and to keep rail traffic moving through the area for the next 30 years, while longer-term solutions are explored.

The updates, included as part of OTA’s oastal Rail Resiliency Study , come following multiple listening sessions with members of the public as well as feedback from the oard, and include sand nourishment in conjunction with rocks and revetment. The study aims to evaluate and implement short- and medium-term strategies to protect the railway

Identify implementation strategies to reduce the risk to rail infrastructure from mudslides, flooding, severe storm/weather events, coastal surge, and sea level rise; Develop enhanced vegetation management and sustainable vegetation strategy for periods of drought and high precipitation; and

Completed ahead of schedule, a new passing siding railroad track in Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano will reduce delays and enhance safety for rail traffic traveling through the area..
