Open Houses Set For SR-57 Widening Project

Construction starting this summer on the first Measure M2 freeway project
July 27, 2010
ORANGE – Construction is starting this summer on the Orange Freeway (SR-57) northbound widening project and open houses are planned in the coming weeks for residents to learn more about the construction schedule and activities.

The five-mile project will add a northbound lane from north of the Riverside Freeway (SR-91) near Orangethorpe Avenue in Placentia to Lambert Road in Brea.

Crews also will add merging lanes at various locations, reconfigure on- and off-ramps, construct retaining walls and sound walls and standardize existing general purpose lanes and shoulder width. The project also will include a continuous carpool lane on the northbound side from Chapman Avenue to Lambert Road.

The following open houses are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.:
Thursday, Aug. 5 at Brea Community Center, 695 Madison Avenue in Brea
Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Ruby Drive Elementary School, 601 Ruby Drive in Placentia
The project is the first freeway project to begin construction under the Measure M2 early action plan, which is jumpstarting projects prior to revenue beginning next year.

Measure M2 funded the development of the project, including environmental and design work, and Proposition 1B provided the money for construction.

The $102-million project is the first of two improvements taking place on the SR-57. Summer 2011, construction will begin to add a northbound lane between Katella Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
