ARTIC Honored For Design Excellence

Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center to break ground in 2011

ORANGE – Plans for the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) won a 2009 Pacific Coast Builders Conference Gold Nugget award for architectural excellence.
The Pacific Coast Builders Conference recently held its 46th annual Gold Nugget Awards in San Francisco, to honor architects and planners for their cutting-edge and creative design of civic, commercial and private structures.
The award was presented to the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) on Monday.
“OCTA is honored to be recognized by Pacific Coast Builders,” said OCTA Chairman Peter Buffa. “We look forward to the construction of ARTIC and the transportation improvements it will create for Orange County residents and visitors.”
The panel of nine judges praised the innovative design and location of ARTIC and awarded it the Outstanding On-The-Boards Site Plan.
“What better place to design a catalyst transit oriented development project than in the heart of Orange County?” said the judges. “The synergy of civic, cultural and entertainment uses plus an emphasis on social gathering spaces will set this destination apart from the others, certainly giving a lasting impression for visitors and residents alike.”
The state-of-the-art facility will serve as a transportation hub designed to accommodate current commuter-rail service and future high-speed rail. ARTIC is situated at major freeways and a short walk from Angel Stadium of Anaheim and Honda Center. Construction on the 16-acre site, owned by Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and Anaheim, is expected to begin in 2011.
