ORANGE – Passenger rail service through San Clemente will be suspended beginning Monday, April 28, to allow for crews to safely conduct emergency construction aimed at stabilizing sections of track at immediate risk from landslides and coastal erosion.

Passenger rail service is expected to be suspended for approximately six weeks, while crews work to repair and reinforce the most vulnerable segments of the track. The closure affects both Metrolink’s Orange County and Inland Empire-Orange County lines.

ORANGE – Crews made significant progress this week in the ongoing emergency work to stabilize the coastal rail line in San Clemente, which is scheduled to remain closed to passenger rail service for approximately five more weeks.

Metrolink and the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, operator of Pacific Surfliner, resumed full service Monday morning. Passengers were updated through social media, station messages and direct communication.

OCTA will work with Condon-Johnson & Associates Inc., a geotechnical contractor with offices in Los Angeles and San Diego, to perform the emergency stabilization work to safely restore passenger rail service as soon as possible.

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority, which owns the rail line that connects San Diego County to Orange County and points further north, is working with Metrolink to clear the tracks in San Clemente and safely restore passenger and freight rail service as quickly as possible.

With Pacific Surfliner providing passenger rail service to and from Oceanside, and to limit the number of trains affecting construction daily, Metrolink will not resume service through the area right now.
