To address current and future traffic demand, OCTA is improving I-5 from north of Interstate 405 (I-405) to State Route 55 (SR-55) in the neighboring cities of Irvine and Tustin as part of the I-5 Irvine Tustin Project. Interstate 5 (I-5) is essential to Orange County's mobility, economy and quality of life.
OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will add one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction, as well as merge lanes between several interchanges. SR-55 is a vital north-south freeway that links central Orange County and beyond to the coastal region.
