The I-5 South County Improvements Project continues to move forward as it widens 6.5 miles of the freeway between SR-73 and El Toro Road.. All three segments of the project are now under construction and are expected to be completed in 2025. Funding for the project comes from OC Go, also known as Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements.

OCTA allocates substantial resources to offset the environmental impacts of freeway projects through the OC Go Environmental Mitigation Program (EMP). Since 2010, OCTA has invested approximately $10 million to restore about 350 acres of open space and more than $42 million to acquire more than 1,300 acres of land across Orange County.

In addition, as part of its commitment to the people of Orange County, OCTA has set aside separate funds from OC Go, also known as Measure M, the county half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements. The funds will be used to improve interchanges, ramps, and bridges along the SR-91 corridor, as part of Projects J and K.

This project is part of the SCORE program for Metrolink’s Orange County and Inland Empire-Orange County lines and Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner. Metrolink has been awarded grants through California’s Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP), which utilizes SB 1 funding, as part of the SCORE program’s $10 billion funding goal.
