In early October, OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson provided updates about the organization’s activities at several events. As a guest lecturer for a graduate class at the Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California, Irvine, Johnson highlighted some of OCTA’s major projects and programs including the 405 Improvement Project, OC Streetcar and zero-emission bus efforts.

Last month, OCTA purchased 151 acres of open space land in Laguna Beach that will be permanently designated as a wilderness preserve. This is the seventh property acquisition under the Measure M Freeway Environmental Mitigation Program, a comprehensive plan that preserves and restores natural habitats and allows for expedited delivery of freeway projects.

From January to late February 2025, OCTA collected more than 6,000 survey responses on the proposed rider validation system, set to launch in late summer 2025. Good news for Irvine-area employees and employers: Through a partnership with the City of Irvine, OCTA is adding two new iShuttle bus routes to expand service and provide additional coverage to residential communities and places of employment in Irvine.
