The San Juan Capistrano train station opened in 1894. The station closed in 1966 and railroad service to the town ended, but it reopened in 1974 after Amtrak reinstated service. The station is in historic downtown near Camino Capistrano and Verdugo Street, a short walk from Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo train station was opened in 2002. The station is a half-mile from the San Diego Freeway (I-5) and near major employment centers and attractions in south Orange County, such as The Shops at Mission Viejo, Saddleback Col-lege and Mission Hospital. More than 300 passengers board Metrolink from the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo station each weekday.
