Today at 4:26 p.m., it was reported that debris from the hillside slope along the Mariposa Trail Bridge in San Clemente had fallen onto the right of way and railroad tracks. As a result, all rail movement has been stopped. The area being affected is located approximately one-half mile north of Metrolink’s San Clemente Pier Station.

OCTA and Metrolink are committed to keeping Orange County safe around train tracks. Always remember to stop, look and listen for a train before crossing the tracks at designated pedestrian crossings. San Juan Creek Trail Closures - Closed April 28 for Two Weeks. The San Juan Creek Trail is expected to be closed as soon as Monday, April 28 for approximately two weeks, weekdays, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The trail will reopen at the end of each workday and remain open on weekends.

Additionally, a temporary solution of a soldier pile catchment wall was implemented by the operator of the Metrolink passenger rail service, SCRRA, in cooperation with OCTA, the owner of the railroad ROW near the Mariposa Pedestrian Beach Trail bridge located between the tracks and bluff at Milepost (MP) 204.2.

Emergency action is necessary to address urgent threats from slope and beach erosion and to protect the community, rail passengers and overall rail operations. The work is projected to include approximately 95% sand and 5% rock reinforcement, known as riprap, only to be placed where needed to stabilize the slope and protect the track.
