ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority on Tuesday, Feb. 4 will offer free rides on OC Bus all day in honor of Transit Equity Day. Nationally, Transit Equity Day has been held each year since 2018 to commemorate the birthday of Rosa Parks, who in 1955 refused to give up her seat on the bus to white riders.

The Youth Ride Free program, which allows youth ages 6 to 18 to ride OC Bus for free to school, sports, work, and other activities, has been extended to eligible OC ACCESS riders. As part of this extension, OC ACCESS trips for eligible OC ACCESS riders ages 18 and under will also be provided at no charge. Personal care attendants (PCA) and guests ages 5 and under will continue to ride for free.

Late cancels are considered no-shows. To cancel a ride, call 877-OCTA-ADA / (877) 628-2232 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For TDD, call (800) 564-4232. In support of Clean Air Day and a greener Orange County, on October 2 OCTA is offering free rides on its 55 fixed route buses to help reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas. Clean air is a priority for OCTA. For example, the OC Bus fleet runs on clean, renewable energy now and is headed toward a 100 percent zero-emission future.

In 2022, OCTA became the first large transit agency in the region to offer free bus rides to all youth ages 6 to 18 on an ongoing basis through the Youth Ride Free program. In addition, OCTA’s Community College Pass program provides OC Bus passes to thousands of community college students who attend the nine community colleges in Orange County.
