Westbound 91 Express Lanes in O.C. to Close This Weekend

Closure begins at 10 p.m. Friday, allowing for upgraded toll technology to be installed

ORANGE – The westbound 91 Express Lanes will close this weekend beginning at 10 p.m. Friday so that the Orange County Transportation Authority can upgrade toll-reading technology.

No work will be done this weekend in the eastbound lanes, which will remain open. All lanes of the 91 Express Lanes and SR-91 in Riverside County also will remain open.

The westbound 91 Express Lanes will be closed on the Orange County side – from just west of Green River Road to SR-55 in Anaheim from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 to approximately 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26.

The work, which is mostly taking place at the toll gantry near Yorba Linda Boulevard/Weir Canyon Road, will also require the periodic closure of the left regular lane, which is the lane closest to the 91 Express Lanes, in that area.

The lane closures are required for the technology to be installed and for the safety of crews working in the area. Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling in the area and are advised to expect delays and to consider using alternate routes during the closure.

The work on the 91 Express Lanes is being completed to upgrade transponder technology that will integrate with a new statewide technology to allow for more seamless use of all California toll facilities.

The 91 Express Lanes, operated by OCTA, will be mailing new sticker transponders later this year.

A similar closure, sometime after Labor Day Weekend, will be planned to complete the technology upgrade in the eastbound lanes. The date for that weekend closure has yet to be determined.
