Crews have hit some significant milestones over the last month on the I-5 South County Improvements Project, a $230 million effort that extends the carpool lane from San Juan Capistrano to San Clemente and reconstructs the Avenida Pico interchange.

ORANGE – While the Orange County Transportation Authority is nearing completion on emergency work to stabilize railroad tracks in San Clemente, the agency and its partners continue to push forward on finding long-term solutions to protect the vital coastal rail line.

Placing k-rail Southbound work is generally complete, northbound is more than 50 percent complete

Emergency action is necessary to prevent additional disruption of vital rail service. In addition, continued erosion requires quick action to repair and replace existing riprap, and deliver enough sand to help protect the tracks.

OCTA approved a $1.7 billion balanced budget for fiscal year 2024-25. In response to disruptions in south Orange County's passenger rail service due to landslides, OCTA initiated emergency measures and outlined strategies to address climate-related impacts on coastal rail infrastructure.

As part of the I-5 South County Improvements Project, on August 19 and 20 southbound traffic will be transitioned onto the new I-5 bridge over Avenida Pico. From Friday, August 19 to Saturday, August 20, the switch will require significant lane reductions southbound on the I-5 freeway between Avenida Vista Hermosa and Avenida Palizada.

Contractor will provide UST/AST services to perform testing, repair, reporting, and necessary modification of these systems.

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority has earned the award for Construction Project of the Year for the Interstate 5 HOV Improvement Project between Avenida Pico and Avenida Vista Hermosa.

Identify and discuss forecasted challenges such as truck bottlenecks, rail capacity, warehousing demand, and air quality requirements. Define goods movement goals to guide the development of a goods movement vision for Orange County that addresses the identified challenges. Objectives:
