Since 1991 OCTA has kept residents and commuters moving throughout Orange County by bus, freeway, rail, bike, walking, and rideshare programs. Our projects and programs improve safety and efficiency on our local roads, provide bus service and regional multimodal connections, help people find ways to leave their cars home, and provide safe, convenient transportation to those with special needs.
The track had moved as much as 28 inches between September 2021 and September 2022 because of storm surge and sand erosion on the coastal side and the gradually sliding hillside on the other. Passenger rail service, including Amtrak and Metrolink, was stopped in late September out of an abundance of caution and to allow for the emergency repairs.

Most of the rail line in the study area is approximately 200 feet or less from the coastline in south Orange County. This rail line is vulnerable to catastrophic failure due to changing environmental conditions and coastal erosion, rendering it inoperable for extended periods.
During the past few weeks, OCTA has secured a total of $305 million from state and federal sources to advance immediate coastal stabilization efforts on the rail corridor where it runs along the vulnerable coastline through San Clemente.
