ORANGE – Passenger rail service, including Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, is scheduled to fully and safely resume through South Orange County on Saturday, June 7, following the planned completion of construction of the initial phase of emergency efforts to reinforce the most vulnerable areas along the rail line in San Clemente.

ORANGE – With ongoing threats to a critical link in Southern California’s rail network, the Orange County Transportation Authority today submitted an Emergency Coastal Development Permit to the California Coastal Commission to expedite work to stabilize four areas most vulnerable to failure above the railroad track through San Clemente.

The $230 million project includes widening I-5 to extend the carpool lanes from San Juan Capistrano to San Clemente and reconstruction of the Pico interchange. At I-5 and PCH/Camino Las Ramblas, crews are wrapping up work on the concrete median barrier.
