What is Next STEP? Next STEP (Safe Transportation Education Program) is a project of Orange County’s Safe Route to School (SRTS) program. Next STEP builds on previous efforts to provide select project schools in Orange County with FREE resources, activities, events, and assessments to encourage families to walk and roll to school safely and more often.

Applications are due by May 31, 2025 and selection is competitive. Applicants must be 13 to 18 years old as of Sept. 1, 2025, reside in Orange County, and be entering grades 9 to 12 at an Orange County public or private school.
