The planned immediate enhancements focus on a 7-mile span of OCTA-owned railroad right-of-way through San Clemente, with the goal of preventing future emergency track closures and service disruptions.

ORANGE – Crews continue to make strong progress on emergency efforts to reinforce the most vulnerable areas along the rail line in San Clemente. Project leaders announced this week that they will continue to work seven days a week, including through Memorial Day weekend, to finish the work and safely reopen the track to passenger rail service as soon as possible.

The emergency construction work was necessitated by a Jan. 24 landslide from a privately-owned hillside that littered the rail right of way below with soil and debris halting rail service.

Emergency work to stabilize the railroad track in southern San Clemente is progressing. The stabilization work includes installing two rows of ground anchors into bedrock along a 700-foot stretch of hillside next to the train tracks. More than 230 steel anchors, each approximately 100 feet long, are needed to stabilize the slope.

ORANGE – Work will continue daily through the Memorial Day weekend, including Monday, on emergency efforts to reinforce the most vulnerable areas along the rail line in San Clemente. Passenger rail service continues to be temporarily halted through the area.
