The budget request is for the 405 Improvement Project's Construction Phase Public Awareness Campaign (PAC), which proactively provides information about the 405 Improvement Project (OC Go Project K and the 405 Express Lanes) via written, visual and digital communication.
SR-55 is one of the most heavily congested freeways in Southern California. The average daily tra c is 261,700 vehicles per day and tra c is expected to increase with future demand. SR-55 is a vital corridor connecting Orange County to Riverside and San Bernardino counties and is a major route for accessing key business centers, John Wayne Airport, major shopping destinations and beach cities.

2. Why are improvements needed on the SR-91 in this area? The portion of SR-91 between SR-57 and SR-55 experiences congestion and traffic delays during peak travel periods due to local and regional traffic demand exceeding available capacity on the freeway, and demand is expected to increase.

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) have begun construction on the SR-22 / I-405 segment of the West County Connectors (WCC) project. During the weekend of Oct.15 – 18, full ramp closures will occur to allow for paving, lane re-striping and utility construction.
Construction on the Goldenwest bridge began in December and the remaining work on the traffic shift is also expected to occur in the coming weeks. The demolition and reconstruction of both bridges are part of the I-405 Improvement Project, which adds a general-purpose lane and a tolled Express Lane facility in each direction of the 16-mile project.
