The I-5 South County Improvement Project will add a carpool lane in each direction on the I-5 freeway between Avenida Pico in San Clemente and San Juan Creek Road in San Juan Capistrano as well as reconstruct the Avenida Pico interchange. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion throughout the cites of San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point and San Clemente.
OCTA is planning extensive public outreach, including with residents of San Clemente and other stakeholders throughout the process. South County Study In addition to the three planned projects, OCTA continues work on longer-term solutions through the South Orange County Multimodal Transportation Study, which now is in the second of three phases.

4. Walk the San Clemente Beach Trail This 4.5 mile out-and-back trail offers access to an uninterrupted stretch of sandy Orange County shoreline and parallels the coastal train tracks, providing magnificent views of the shore cliffs and the vast turquoise Pacific waters. The trail begins at the San Clemente North Beach Metrolink station.

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in cooperation with the City of San Clemente, added lighting and replaced handrails at the San Clemente Pier Station, enhancing passenger safety.
