Metrolink, in coordination with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), is proposing to extend 1.2 miles of railroad track in Dana Point. The siding track would be constructed adjacent to the existing main track and extend from Victoria Boulevard south to the rail crossing at Beach Road. The proposed project would reduce delays, increase safety, and provide more reliable service.

In addition to the high-speed rail request, Caltrans also will apply for $340 million to advance 18 rail projects in Southern California that would connect to high-speed rail, six of which are in Orange County. The stimulus plan includes $8 billion for high-speed rail nationwide and money is expected to be awarded by the end of the year.

It is an emergency project to stabilize the railroad tracks in south San Clemente. The Orange County Transportation Authority, in coordination with Metrolink, has completed installation of ground anchors into a slope adjacent to the Cyprus Shore community. Passenger train service through the area was suspended in October 2022, and freight train service was reduced.
