The $1.9 billion I- 405 Improvement Project will add one regular lane in each direction between Euclid Street and I-605, and a second lane in each direction in the center of the freeway from SR- 73 to I-605 that will combine with the existing carpool lanes to form the 405 Express Lanes.
The I‐5 project between SR‐ 73 and El Toro Road (Project C) will be staged as three project segments going forward and all three on now in the design phase. The I‐ 405 project between SR‐55 and I‐605 (Project K) is currently in the final environmental and ini al design phases.
In addition, the project has created the 405 Express Lanes between SR- 73 and I-605, giving options to carpoolers to travel for free and solo drivers the choice to speed up their commute for a toll.
