Metrolink and the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, operator of Pacific Surfliner, resumed full service Monday morning. Passengers were updated through social media, station messages and direct communication.

As a part of Coastal Rail Resiliency Study, OCTA completed an Initial Assessment in January 2024 that identified four areas – called Reinforcement Areas – that require immediate action to ensure safe and uninterrupted rail operations through San Clemente because of unstable slopes and beach erosion.

Beginning Monday, April 28, passenger rail was suspended for approximately six weeks while crews work to repair and reinforce the most vulnerable segments of the track. The closure affects both Metrolink’s Orange County and Inland Empire-Orange County lines, as well as Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner trains through the area.

Work crews began staging heavy equipment Monday for a wall to be built along the railroad tracks in San Clemente, where a landslide continues to prevent passenger train service between San Diego and Orange counties.

ORANGE – Regular passenger rail service through San Clemente resumed on Monday morning, restoring a critical link in Southern California’s transportation system with the completion of a catchment wall at Mariposa Point to protect the track.
