Pacific Electric Right of Way Study

OC, LA Working Together to Study Transit Options

As a follow up to the Orange and Los Angeles Intercounty Transportation Study that was completed in July 2008, the Southern Association of Governments (SCAG), in coordination with OCTA and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (METRO), is conducting a study to assess the feasibility of transit service along the Pacific Electric Right of Way connecting Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

The 20-mile stretch of railroad right of way, extending from Santa Ana in Orange County to Paramount in Los Angeles, was once part of the Pacific Electric Railway System. At this time, the majority of the right of way has been abandoned and is not currently used for mass transit purposes.

The project study team provided the TAC with recommendations for the technology/modal options, alignment/stations, and project phasing.  SCAG presented the TAC recommendations to the AA Steering Committee on June 20, 2012. The TAC recommendations for the alignment/stations, and the project phasing was also approved by the Steering Committee. These recommendations will be forwarded to SCAG’s Transportation Committee and Regional Council in September/October 2012 for final approval.
