Protecting our infrastructure

Local streets and roads are the foundation of our transportation system. They connect us to work, school, shopping and recreation. There are more than 7,300 miles of roadways in Orange County. And every single mile needs to be maintained.

That’s why OCTA invested $41.3 million in Measure M2 funds for street improvement and maintenance during the past fiscal year. Those funds went to Orange County’s 34 cities and unincorporated areas of the county to improve intersections and keep the streets in our communities in good repair.

OCTA continued its effort to keep traffic moving and increase safety at grade separations, where roadways cross railroad tracks. OCTA embarked on the OC Bridges Program to build underpasses and overpasses to separate motorized traffic from trains. These six bridges will eliminate the need for commuters and commercial vehicles to stop while long freight trains pass by, saving time and fuel and decreasing vehicle emissions in these areas. During the fiscal year, construction began on the Placentia Avenue and the Kraemer Boulevard undercrossings.

Measure M2 Funding. Measure M provided $85.9 million for local streets and roads improvement projects during the fiscal year.
