Long Range Transportation Plan

2026 Long Range Transportation Plan

PROJECT CONTACT
direction 2050

Orange County’s transportation system faces increasing pressure to adapt to a range of long-term challenges such as climate-related risks, aging infrastructure, and evolving travel behaviors. Building a resilient system that can withstand future disruptions is essential to keeping people and goods moving efficiently.

To proactively plan for these changes , the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is updated every four years to define a transportation vision for Orange County that aims to address long-term mobility needs and guide investment decisions over the next 20+ years. The plan considers demographics and travel demand projections, revenues forecasts, and any other emerging trends. It incorporates current OCTA policies and commitments, technical analysis, and input from the public, local jurisdictions, community and business leaders, and transportation professionals.

The LRTP also informs the Regional Transportation Plan and Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS) developed by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). Including Orange County’s transportation projects in the RTP/SCS is a critical step to position them for competitive state and federal funding programs.

The purpose of the LRTP is to:

  • Identify emerging transportation challenges
  • Use public input to inform transportation strategies and initiatives
  • Establish a transportation vision for Orange County through 2050
  • Identify projects for inclusion in SCAG’s RTP/SCS

Schedule

The final LRTP is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2026.
