Freeways

OCTA continues to work toward relieving congestion along the I-405, one of the busiest stretches of freeway in the nation, with more than 370,000 daily commuters. Work on the West County Connectors Project completed its third year and now enters the fourth and final year of construction.

As Orange County’s population grows, traffic volume on our freeways will increase significantly. In an ongoing effort to alleviate traffic congestion, OCTA expedited some freeway improvement projects and started construction on others to deliver tomorrow’s mobility benefits today. OCTA completed its third year of construction on one of Orange County’s largest infrastructure projects, the West County Connectors Project, that will link high occupancy vehicle lanes on Interstate 405 (I-405) with those on State Route 22 (SR-22) and Interstate 605 (I-605). OCTA also completed construction on a new six-mile general purpose lane in both directions of the State Route 91 (SR-91) between State Route 55 (SR-55) and State Route 241 (SR-241).
