OCTA in cooperation with Caltrans is improving 16 miles of the San Diego Freeway (I- 405) between State Route 73 (SR- 73) and Interstate 605 (I-605). It also will construct the 405 Express Lanes from SR- 73 to I-605.

• On Oct. 26, the northbound I- 405 carpool lane will close at SR- 73. • On Nov. 2, the carpool lanes in both directions between SR-22 and I- 405, and between I-605 and I- 405 will also close. The lanes will be closed 24/7 for the duration of the testing.

The 405 Express Lanes is being built as part of the I- 405 Improvement Project that is making improvements to I- 405 and surrounding streets between SR- 73 and I-605.

In cooperation with Caltrans, OCTA is improving 16 miles of I- 405 between SR- 73 and I-605. The project will enhance mobility for different types of travel and includes 11 new bike lanes and sidewalks on bridges. The project will also construct the 405 Express Lanes from SR- 73 to I-605.

The 405 Express Lanes – between SR- 73 in Costa Mesa and I-605 at the Orange County Line – will give options to carpoolers to travel for free and solo drivers the choice to speed up their commute for a toll.
