Preventive maintenance category includes expenses incurred by the Authority, which include salaries and benefits as well as outside services associated with the preventive maintenance of the revenue vehicle fleet and the bus facilities. Preventive Maintenance is provided at regular intervals and include such items as oil changes, filter replacement, fluid level checks, brake checks.
Preventive maintenance inspections help maintain and even prolong the life of critical vehicle components which helps keep the vehicle in good operating condition throughout its useful life. This type of maintenance is required when federal funds are used by transit agencies to purchase vehicles by the Federal Transit Administration.
The Capital Cost of Contracting category are expenses incurred by the Authority for purchasing service instead of operating the service directly. This would include the Authority's ACCESS program, a paratransit program required under the Americans with Disabilities Act, along with the fixed route, StationLink and express bus services operated under contract.
