Conference To Explore Partnerships For Landmark Southern California Joint Development Complex

ARTIC, a public-private endeavor, offers investment opportunities in heart of Orange County’s tourism, employment and population centers

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The vision for a unique transportation and activity center, combining public and private mixed-use development, is beginning to unfold in the heart of Orange County, and a planned conference will bring together interested parties from around the country to explore ARTIC.

ARTIC – the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center – is a rare opportunity for developers, builders, and financiers to join in creating a world-class joint development complex for Southern California centered around a transportation hub linking freeways, major streets, bus routes, one of the nation’s busiest rail corridors, and the state’s two busiest theme parks.

ARTIC’s public partners, the city of Anaheim and the Orange County Transportation Authority, are inviting private sector developers and builders of transportation facilities, office and commercial space, hotels as well as parking operators and financial institutions to participate in the ARTIC Joint Development Interest Conference on Monday, Oct. 29, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Honda Center, Anaheim, home of the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks.

“As we move forward with this ambitious transportation and civic project, we need to leverage the private sector’s creativity and innovation to make ARTIC a reality,” said Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, also a member of the OCTA Board of Directors. “I hope that entrepreneurs from Anaheim and around the world will partner with our public sector experts to bring the best and brightest minds to this groundbreaking effort.”

This conference will provide an opportunity to learn about public-private partnerships, the regional transit context and development opportunities surrounding the ARTIC site. Attendees will hear from project sponsors and receive information about the upcoming developer selection process.

In addition, Steve Beatty, chair of KPMG’s Global Infrastructure & Projects Group for North America and a member of the Transportation Research Board Committee on Taxation and Finance (U.S. National Academy of Sciences), will discuss the dynamics of public-private partnerships.

Eric J. Anderson, ASLA, senior project manager and landscape architect with PB PlaceMaking, will share his highly acclaimed successes for the past five years and discuss his experience as project manager for the Denver Union Station development in Colorado.

ARTIC is located in Anaheim’s Platinum Triangle and spans more than 16 acres on land purchased by OCTA for $32 million in 2006. OCTA is investing more than $400 million to deliver 30-minute Metrolink commuter-rail service throughout Orange County by 2009. The city of Anaheim is also implementing the complementary zoning and density around ARTIC and forming a community facilities district to finance most of the infrastructure improvements and services associated with new development.
