Orange Pedestrian Undercrossing Now Open

The new pedestrian undercrossing at the Orange Depot officially opened on August 27. This undercrossing makes getting to and from the trains much easier and safer by providing direct access between the platforms and the parking lots. Passengers no longer have to walk to the platforms from Chapman Avenue at the south end of the station.

The Orange Depot is a part of historic Old Towne and was built in the 1930’s, so special considerations were taken to make sure the undercrossing fit in with the surroundings. Vintage-style light fixtures were installed, as well as pilasters – or columns that project from the wall – which reflect the historic area.

The interior features a public art project designed and created by Laguna Beach artist Marsh Scott. The artwork, “Orange in Motion,” includes three-dimensional murals on both walls. The murals feature steel leaves extended out from the wall with important historic milestones of the City of Orange. A skylight in the middle of the undercrossing provides natural light.

If the Orange Depot is your regular stop, take a moment to enjoy the completed pedestrian undercrossing. If the Orange Depot isn’t your regular stop, try Metrolink Weekends service to Orange and spend the day in Old Towne. And don’t forget to check out the new pedestrian undercrossing.
