Current Freeway Projects
I-5 Gateway Project
Construction began in spring 2006 on the I-5 Gateway Project. The four-year project is widening the remaining two miles of the Santa Ana Freeway (Interstate 5) in Orange County from the Riverside Freeway (State Route 91) to the Los Angeles County line. The I-5 Gateway Project is the final link in Measure M’s (Orange County’s half-cent transportation sales tax) ambitious freeway improvement program and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2010.

West County Connectors
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in partnership with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), started final design on the West County Connectors project. The project traverses the cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and the community of Rossmoor. It was initiated to link high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes/carpool lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) with those on the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) and San Gabriel Freeway (I-605) to create a seamless HOV connection amongst the three freeways.

I-405 ImprovementProject
Several alternatives for improving travel on the I-405 resulted from an extensive collaboration among the OCTA study team, traffic engineers, local public officials, business and community leaders, and commuters and local residents. These participants gave their time, ideas and comments to the study effort. The alternatives for improvement represent a community consensus about feasible improvements to the I-405 in the years ahead.

SR-91 Proposed Improvements
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), is proposing to add a lane to the eastbound Riverside Freeway (SR-91) between the Eastern Toll Road (SR-241) in eastern Orange County and the Corona Expressway (SR-71) in western Riverside County to reduce traffic congestion. The total length of the SR-91 improvement project is 6.9 miles.
