Bus Book Sales
OCTA’s bus books cost $1. The bus book is the customer’s most preferred source of bus schedule information. In order to continue to provide the bus book and make it available year-round, OCTA began selling the bus book in October 2010 rather than using funds that may otherwise be used for bus service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why are Bus Books being sold?
A. The Bus Book is the customer’s most preferred source of bus schedule information. In order to continue to provide the Bus Book and make it available year-round, OCTA is selling the Bus Book rather than using funds that may otherwise be used for bus service.
Q. How much does a Bus Book cost?
A. The Bus Book costs $1. It is not OCTA’s intention to generate profit from the sales of the Bus Book, but to cover the actual costs involved in producing the Bus Book.
Q. When will the Bus Books become available for purchase?
A. New Bus Books will be available 3 to 4 weeks before a service change.
Q. Where can I purchase a Bus Book?
A. Bus Books are sold on-board buses. They are located in a special holder right next to the farebox. You can also purchase them at the OCTA store on Main St. in Orange or purchase them online at www.octa.net/passsales or by phone at 714-560-5932. A postage charge ($2.60) will be added to the sales price ($1) for all online and phone orders.
Q. How do I pay for the Bus Book?
A. If you are purchasing the Bus Book on the bus, let the coach operator know you are purchasing the Bus Book and place a $1 bill or $1 in change into the farebox. Fareboxes do not accept pennies. Q. When should I purchase a Bus Book?
A. Your purchase should be made as you are boarding the bus and paying your fare or swiping your pass. We recommend that purchases be made when there are not a lot of customers boarding the bus to reduce delaying the bus during peak travel times.
Q. What if there are no Bus Books on the bus to purchase?
A. Try again on your trip home. Bus Books will be restocked with every coach operator shift change and every morning. If you can’t get one today, please check again tomorrow.

Q. Can I buy more than one Bus Book?
A. Yes, there is no restriction on the number of Bus Books you can buy, but OCTA does want to encourage our customers to be mindful of the needs of fellow passengers. If you do not need more than one copy immediately, please purchase your additional copies on another day or time, to allow more availability for others.
Q. Where else can I get bus information?
A. Reference copies of Bus Books will be made available to libraries, schools, city halls, senior centers, and travel trainers. You can also get your bus schedules online with OCTA’s ebusbook, or by using text4next on your cell phone. For more information on these electronic options, visit www.octa.net.
