(read full speech / watch video)

The ARTIC Vision

A world-class, joint-development opportunity is emerging in southern California, adjacent to several major freeways, near rail service, and a short walk from Angel Stadium of Anaheim and Honda Center, home of the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks. The Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) will combine a transportation gateway and a mixed-use activity center on a16-acre site owned by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and the City of Anaheim.

ARTIC will provide easy connections between the Platinum Triangle, Anaheim Resort, the southern California region and beyond. ARTIC will offer convenient travel via train, car, intercity bus, taxi, or local transit, and it will also accommodate future plans for high speed train service. The transportation facility would integrate with a major urban-scale, mixed-use activity center. It all comes together to form a vibrant, Southern California-style activity center.

A Growing Community

With a population of more than 3 million, Orange County is the second largest county in California and the fifth largest county in the nation. Population is expected to continue to grow in the coming decades with a population of 3.7 million expected by 2040. The City of Anaheim is California’s 10th largest city with nearly 350,000 residents and is in the heart of the county.

Envisioning ARTIC

ARTIC should capture Orange County’s imagination and communicate the dynamic metropolitan center that Orange County has become. An innovative ARTIC development plan will create a lasting civic facility that complements major buildings nearby and also provides a protected sense of place inside.

Interested Partners

The City of Anaheim and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) recently received responses to the ARTIC Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) from 14 private firms representing a variety of industries and market sectors, including:
  • Arup and Transmetrics
  • Cherokee
  • CIM Group
  • Citigroup Global Markets, Inc.
  • Forest City Development
  • Hill International
  • Hines
  • IBI Group and AREP Group
  • Lehman Brothers
  • Newport Real Estate Services, Inc., and Focus Real Estate Group, LP
  • Opus West Corporation
  • Parsons Transportation Group, Inc.
  • PB Americas, Inc. and Arlington Group
  • WoodStone Capital Group LLC

These responses were voluntary on the part of the development community and will be used to advance a formal procurement process to select a private partner(s) to undertake ARTIC and the associated development. In addition to these formal Expressions of Interest, the City also has received numerous inquiries into the project. The City of Anaheim, together with OCTA, will be releasing an ARTIC Request for Qualifications document later this spring.
