Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) Improvements Map

    Description :

Build new lanes and improve the interchanges in the area between SR-55 and the SR-133 (near the El Toro “Y”). This segment of I-5 is the major route serving activity areas in the cities of Irvine, Tustin, Santa Ana and north Orange County. The project will also make improvements at local interchanges, such as Jamboree Road. The project will generally be constructed within the existing right-of-way. Speciic improvements will be subject to approved plans developed in cooperation with local jurisdictions and affected communities.

The project will increase freeway capacity and reduce congestion. The current trafic volume on this segment of I-5 is about 356,000 vehicles per day and is expected to increase by nearly 24 percent, bringing it up to 440,000 vehicles per day. In addition to the projects described above, regional plans include additional improvements to this freeway at local interchanges, such as Culver Drive, using federal and state funds.

    Cost :

The estimated cost to improve this section of I-5 is $300.2 million.
