  • Metrolink Parking Structure at the Orange Transportation Center

  • PROJECT OVERVIEW

Located in the heart of Old Towne Orange, the Orange Transportation Center is serviced by Metrolink and Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) bus routes which provide connectivity to downtown Orange businesses, Chapman University, and other nearby destinations and employment centers.

To provide for current demand and future growth, OCTA and the City of Orange are constructing a new shared use multi-story parking structure. Designed to reflect the community’s historic setting, the parking structure will provide over 600 parking spaces, bike lockers, car charging stations and include solar panels on the top level. This joint use parking structure will increase accessibility to and from the Orange Transportation Center and downtown Orange.

This $33.2 million project is funded by the City of Orange, Measure M, State Transportation Improvement Program, and Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) funds.

    NEW FEATURES

    • 611 New Parking Spaces:

This five-story structure will be located at an existing City of Orange surface parking lot located at the corner of Chapman Avenue and Lemon Street. The addition of parking spaces will improve accessibility for Metrolink riders and motorists visiting Old Towne Orange.

    • Electric Car Charging Ports:

Several dedicated parking spaces will feature electric car charging ports, allowing for eco-friendly vehicles to plug in and recharge.

    • Historic Design:

The structure and plaza areas reflect the historic character and scale of Old Towne Orange to blend into the architectural design of the historic district.

    • Solar Panels:

Solar panels will be placed on the facility’s roof, thereby providing required lighting and reduced energy costs.

    • Bike Racks and Lockers:

This newly added feature will encourage active transportation by providing commuters peace of mind knowing there is a secure place to store their bicycles.

    ALTERNATIVE PARKING DURING CONSTRUCTION

Lemon Street Parking Lot Permanently Closing

The new Metrolink Parking Structure will be built on the existing municipal surface parking lot at Chapman Avenue and Lemon Street. To allow for construction to begin, the Lemon Street Parking Lot will permanently close at 12:01 am Monday, July 24, 2017.

Any vehicles still in the lot after the closure will be towed by the Orange Police Department at the owner’s expense.

During construction, alternative public parking will be available at two Chapman University parking lots.

    • Surface Parking: The Chapman University parking lot at Palm Avenue will be available for overnight parking. The lot is accessible from either Palm Avenue or from the north end of the West Depot parking lot.
    • Structure Parking: The top level of the Chapman University West Campus Structure located off of Cypress Street will be available for daytime parking. The West Campus structure is closed daily from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Both alternative parking locations are currently available for public use. No special permits or passes are required.
