    Is a sun-powered home in your future? Get inspired by solar homes and imagine living in these cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive structures at the Solar Decathlon at Orange County Great Park in Irvine Oct. 8-11 & 15-18, 2015 from 10 am. to 7 p.m.. The 17 models will be designed and built by local Orange County college students and competitors from around the world. Gather ideas to use in your own home and learn how energy-saving features can help save money, then spend the day at beautiful Great Park with your family.

    Come celebrate the Solar Decathlon on Saturday, October 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Orange Station with music, free refreshments sponsored by Ruby’s Diner and free Metrolink tickets for the first 100 people (first come, first served).

    How to Take the Train to the Solar Decathlon
    Both the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and Metrolink offer service to the Irvine Station. From there, show your ticket and ride free to the Great Park on the shuttle provided by the City of Irvine. Going home, just take the shuttle back to the station and from there board your train home.

    Amtrak Pacific Surfliner
    Ride the Pacific Surfliner south from San Luis Obispo and north from San Diego to Irvine. Local stations are listed here. It’s a great option Thursday and Friday; weekend service will be limited due to track maintenance in San Diego County. Tickets may be purchased at Amtrak.com or at ticket vending machines at the station.

    Metrolink
    Service is available locally to Irvine from Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties throughout the week. On weekends, pick up a Metrolink Weekend Day Pass for only $10. Tickets are available at the ticket vending machine at the station.

    Shuttle from Irvine Station
    On exhibit days (Oct. 8-11, 15-18), the shuttle from Irvine Station to the Solar Decathlon operates from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Your ride is free when you show your train ticket.

    Metrolink/Amtrak riders: From the northbound platform (Track 1), board the shuttle by going through the gate to the Great Park grounds. From the southbound platform, first cross over the bridge, then go through the gate to the grounds.

      Three children ride free with an adult using a valid ticket - each additional child pays youth fare.

      Please present photo ID with date of birth to the fare inspector upon request

      Persons with Disabilities
      25% off Monthly Pass and 7-Day Pass

      Please present proof of eligibility to the fare inspector upon request:

      • LA County Transit Operators Association ID card
      • Reduced fare ID card from other transit system
      • Medicare ID card
      • DMV placard ID card
      • LA County Access Services ID Card holders ride at no cost
        (Please note: Effective March 1, 2012 "old" white ID cards will no longer be accepted on Metrolink trains)

      A Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is allowed to accompany a person with a disability without purchasing a ticket. The PCA must board and detrain with the person with a disability.

      Students
      25% off Monthly Pass, 7-Day Pass, One-Way and Round-Trip tickets
      Please present valid Student ID to the fare inspector upon request.

      Active Military
      10% off One-Way and Round-Trip tickets
      Please present a valid Common Access Card (CAC) to the fare inspector upon request.

       

    • Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Discounts

      Find out more about the various discounts available to our passengers and how to apply those discounts during the online booking process.
      To use a AAA, Student Advantage, ISIC, or NARP discount, you must book your tickets at least three days in advance of travel.

      Children 
      Kids 2 through 12 years old ride half-price every day. Infants under 2 ride free.

      Seniors

      AAA Members 
      Save 10% when you use your AAA Card.

      Military 
      Active duty US military personnel, their spouses and their dependents, are eligible to receive a 10% discount off most Amtrak rail fares.

      NARP Members 
      National Association of Railroad Passengers members save 10%.

      Student Advantage 
      Save 10% with your Student Advantage Card.

      Save 15% with your Veterans Advantage VetRewards Card.

      Group & Convention Travel 
      Travel in groups of 20 or more and you may be eligible to receive a discount for each 20 paying passengers.
