Interstate 5 Freeway

I-5 Overview | I-5 Gateway Project | In Your NeighborhoodBeach Boulevard Bridge Reconstruction

I-5 Freeway Sign Paving the way for our communities' growth and prosperity, Interstate 5 —the Santa Ana Freeway—has been Orange County's "Main Street" for more than 40 years. In that time, the county's rapid growth has directly impacted the I-5 and its ability to handle the increasing number of vehicles using the freeway every day.

Thanks to Measure M, the package of transportation improvements promised to voters in 1990 when they approved a special tax, major improvements began in 1991 to widen and enhance the I-5 so that Orange County's communities and economy can continue to prosper. In most areas of Orange County, motorists are enjoying the benefits of a wider and faster-flowing I-5 freeway. Measure M has funded $1.5 billion worth of improvements to the I-5 alone.

The I-5 Gateway Project, stretching between Beach Blvd. and the Los Angeles County Line, is the latest phase of the I-5 freeway improvements in Orange County.
