  • Placentia Avenue Undercrossing Opens to Traffic

    ORANGE – Orange County Transportation Authority officials today celebrated a major milestone in the O.C. Bridges Program when they became the first to drive Placentia Avenue under the BNSF rail line.

    The Placentia Avenue undercrossing is the first grade-separation project to open in OCTA’s $630 million O.C. Bridges Program, which is building seven such undercrossings or overcrossings to separate car traffic from rail traffic.

  • Construction Begins on I-5 South County Improvements

    ORANGE – Drivers will see construction activity ramping up on the San Diego (I-5) Freeway in South Orange County as crews begin work on a $249-million traffic-relief project.

    Beginning Sunday night, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the on- and off-ramps will be closed at Pacific Coast Highway and Camino Las Ramblas. Closures to different ramps at different times will occur during the overall work window.

    OCTA is working to improve traffic flow and safety by building a series of bridges – both underpasses and overpasses – to eliminate the need for commuters and commercial vehicles to stop, wait and waste time at railroad crossings as freight trains pass by.

    ORANGE – The sharp crack of a whip Wednesday signaled the start of freeway construction that will add carpool lanes between San Juan Creek Road and Avenida Pico.

    More than 100 transportation, community and business leaders gathered to celebrate the start of construction for the $249 million I-5 South Improvement Project. In addition to adding the carpool lane in both directions between San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, the project will rebuild the Avenida Pico interchange in San Clemente.

  • OCTA Board Selects One Lane in Each Direction for I-405

    ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority board voted today to construct one general-purpose lane in each direction between Costa Mesa and the county line in Seal Beach as part of the I-405 Improvement Project. The board’s vote means that high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes will not be a part of the I-405 project, which is being funded through Measure M, the half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements.

  • Freeway Construction On Hold For Thanksgiving

    Drivers traveling Orange County freeways will enjoy easier rides to Thanksgiving feasts as Orange County Transportation Authority construction project closures will be suspended for the holiday weekend.

    Closures associated with the West County Connectors, SR-91 widening and SR-57 lane addition projects will be halted by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 and will not take place through Sunday, Dec. 1. Regular construction schedules and associated closures will resume on Monday, Dec. 2.

    The West County Connectors project has reached another exciting milestone. At 2 p.m., Sunday Sept. 15th, the west half of the Seal Beach Boulevard bridge opened to motorists. In order to restore traffic to two lanes in each direction, crews worked around the clock this weekend to restripe Seal Beach Boulevard and modify signal timing before unveiling the new lane configuration.

    SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – Crews will perform nighttime work to demolish the south half of the Ortega Highway overcrossing of the I-5 freeway. The demolition work will take place starting Friday, Aug. 2 from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Work will resume on Saturday Aug. 3, at 11 p.m. and conclude at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013.
  • Southbound I-405 / Eastbound SR-22 Connector Bridge Demolition: August 2013

    The southbound I-405 connector to the eastbound SR-22 freeway is being reconstructed in order to make room for the new SR-22 / I-405 carpool connector. Once construction on the new connector is complete, the old connector must be demolished. Since the southbound I-405 / eastbound SR-22 connector crosses over the I-405 freeway (near Valley View Street), in order to demolish the old structure, portions of the eastbound SR-22, northbound I-405 and southbound I-405 freeways will be closed for approximately 20 hours, from approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 to approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2013.
