ACCESS Service & Options

ACCESS service is OCTA’s shared-ride paratransit service. It’s available for people unable to use regular, fixed-route service because of functional limitations caused by a disability. ACCESS customers must be certified as eligible under the guidelines set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act. ACCESS operates within a 3/4-mile corridor during the same days and hours as the fixed-route service.

ACCESS offers several services. Standard Service is a curb-to-curb service. The base fare for this service is $2.70 per passenger paid when boarding for each one-way trip. Door-to-Door Service is provided for an additional fare for customers who prefer to be escorted to and/or from their door. Subscription Service allows riders who travel on a regular basis to receive service without the need to call and request each trip. Same-Day Taxi Service offers ACCESS eligible riders transportation on the day they wish to travel.

How will ACCESS service be impacted?

Any route eliminations or restructuring could affect ACCESS service in the area. ACCESS service will still be available within a 3/4-mile corridor of operating bus routes. If you are a current ACCESS customer, check the Route Eliminations in the Service Changes section to see if your ACCESS service will be affected.

What are my options?

For those customers whose area is affected by a route elimination Same-Day Taxi Service is an option. Unlike ACCESS Standard, Door-to-Door and Subscription Services, you don’t have to live within the 3/4-mile corridor to use Same-Day Taxi Service.

About Same-Day Taxi Service

OCTA contracts with a taxi operator to provide Same-Day Taxi Service. Anyone with current ACCESS eligibility can use the service. OCTA has a formal certification process that follows the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and eligibility criteria.   • What Does it Cost?

    ACCESS coupons will not be accepted for Same-Day Taxi Service. At the start of the trip the rider pays the taxi driver $2.70 – the regular ACCESS fare. OCTA pays the taxi operator a flat rate of $7.30 for the trip, regardless of length, for a total of $10.00. At the end of the trip, the rider pays any amount left on the taxi meter over $10.00. Companions or personal care attendants of an ACCESS customer can travel in the same taxi as space allows at no additional fare.

  • Accessibility

    Same-Day Taxi Service includes taxis that accommodate persons usings mobility devices. Scheduling a ride in an accessible taxi will depend on vehicle availability.

  • Operating Times

    Same-Day Taxi Service operates 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.

  • To Schedule Same-Day Taxi Service

    Same-Day Taxi Service trips are not reserved in advance and are scheduled the same day a customer wishes to travel at the time they wish to travel.
